THE BEST PICNIC FLOAT EVER

From Jim Prag ('58):

This is a old picture of the "best picnic float ever" that four members of the Class of '58 put together for one of our picnic parades ... it may have been when we were in 7th or 8th grade. We had an old lawnmower motor in it ... not to propel it, but just for sound effects. We pushed it with broom handles. It was created by John Hummel (his family ran Hummel's Market, which was located on Leona & Fillmore -- now a beauty shop), John Niebling (still in the parish), Tom Morrison (in Washington, D.C.) & Jim Prag (still in the parish). The Class of '58 will be celebrating our 50th reunion this coming September.

Rick Ballweg ('60): It's funny, but I remember that float. I was in the graduating class of ’60, and one of my best friends was the younger brother of Tom Morrison, Denny. As a matter of fact, three of the kids in the picture wound up coaching our eighth grade basketball team (Tom Morrison, Jim Prag and John Hummel). The fourth coach was Ted Peterson. We finished second in the CAC league that year. We beat St. Margaret’s in an overtime game and lost to St. Gabriel’s for the championship.

Eighth graders on the team were John Faes, Denny Garavaglia, Denny Morrison, Rick Ballweg, Bill Meyer, John Caruso, Mark Flanagan, Paul Goldak, Jack Veach and Red Christman.

It's been a long time, but some memories you just can’t forget.
